Swiss Movement: the Swiss watch movement inside the Bow-Watch-Tie
The heart of every Swiss watch is its movement – the «Swiss movement». The Bow-Watch-Tie by Zircon Swiss runs on a Swiss quartz movement, the ETA 978.002. Here is what makes a Swiss movement – and why it sets the pace even inside a bow tie.
What does «Swiss movement» mean?
Under the Swiss watch ordinance, a Swiss movement is a movement assembled and inspected in Switzerland whose value consists to a substantial part of Swiss components. Only a Swiss movement allows a watch to be called «Swiss Made» – a genuine Swiss watch.

Quartz or mechanical?
Mechanical movements are driven by a spring, quartz movements by a battery and an oscillating quartz crystal. Quartz movements are more precise, low-maintenance and insensitive to movement – ideal for an accessory worn at the collar that should not need winding every day.
The ETA 978.002 inside the Bow-Watch-Tie
The Bow-Watch-Tie runs on the Swiss quartz movement ETA 978.002 (Swiss Made). It is accurate to ±10–20 seconds per month and runs for about three years on one battery. As the calibre is used worldwide, servicing and battery changes are easy.
The movement is protected by a brass case with 10 µ gold plating, sapphire crystal and a bezel of faceted zirconium dioxide ceramic; the case is water-resistant to 3 ATM.
A Swiss watch – worn on a bow tie
The Bow-Watch-Tie is an invention from Biel/Bienne: a handcrafted bow tie in Como silk with a Swiss watch and Swiss movement at its centre. Its construction is covered by Swiss patent application CH 722154, and its design is registered as CH 148284.
Biel – home of the Swiss movement
Biel/Bienne is one of the key locations of the Swiss watch industry. This is where Marc Lederrey developed Rado's scratch-proof DiaStar in the 1960s – and where the Bow-Watch-Tie is made today.
Frequently asked questions

Which movement does the Bow-Watch-Tie use?
A Swiss quartz movement ETA 978.002 (Swiss Made), accurate to ±10–20 seconds per month with a battery life of about three years.
Does the watch need winding?
No. The quartz movement runs on a battery that is replaced roughly every three years.
